At School Screenings

Beginning September 2018, NYS Education Law requires that students receive vision and hearing as part of the school health services provided by the school district. The purpose of this requirement is to detect the presence of vision and hearing problems likely to impede a student's learning. During this school year, the following screenings will be required or completed at school:

  • Vision: Distance and near acuity for all newly entering students and students in Pre-K or Kindergarten, Grades 1,3,5,7, and 11. Color perception for all newly entering students.
  • Hearing: Hearing screening for all newly entering students and students in Pre-K or Kindergarten, Grades 1,3,5,7 and 11.
  • Scoliosis: Scoliosis (spinal curvature) screening for all girls in grades 5 and 7, and boys in grade 9.

Please note: If the results of the screening indicate that your child requires further follow-up, you will receive written notification.

If you have any other questions please call your child's Nurse Office.
