Update: Enhanced Security Measures

Posted Date: 9/17/24 (10:37 AM)

As a follow-up to this morning’s Parent Square notifications, I wanted to update you with some more information as it evolves. Several districts in the Western New York area, including Newfane, have been addressing concerns related to social media posts on Snapchat that can be perceived as a threat. This morning, we were made aware of a post that contained information concerning our district as well as one of our neighboring districts. Please know with the assistance of our School Resource Officer Deputy Ray Needle we were in immediate contact with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office. As a precautionary measure aligned with other schools in the region, we have enhanced our security measures within the district today. This includes increased Sheriff and State Police presence and visibility within our district as well as cancelling any drills that were scheduled for today. We are working within our district’s Code of Conduct and safety response protocols to investigate the situation in coordination with law enforcement. Please know that the safety of our students, staff and families is our top priority and I want to ensure you that everyone is safe. We will communicate any further information as we are made aware. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your school principal directly. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
