Board of Education announces plans to fill vacant seat
“Letters of Interest” requested by September 26, 2018
Newfane, New York, September 5, 2018: The Newfane Central School District Board of Education must replace former Board trustee James “Mike” Little, who passed away August 17, 2018. “Mr. Little was a staunch supporter of our students and the District”, said Superintendent Michael Baumann, “and will be hard to replace. But the Board has an obligation to fill his now vacant seat.”
Board decides against holding a special election. At Tuesday night’s Board meeting, Board president James Schmitt directed Superintendent Baumann to issue a notice to the public that the Board of Education is soliciting “Letters of Interest” from any District resident who would like to serve on the school board. Potential Board members must be at least 18 years of age, able to read and write, not be employed by the District and be a resident of the District for at least one year. Letters of Interest can be dropped off to the District Clerk, Bernadette Seymour, at the District Offices on Godfrey Road in Burt, or mailed to the District at 6273 Charlotteville Road, Newfane, NY 14108. In order to be considered, letters must be received by September 26, 2018. “The Board will consider all applicants,” according to Schmitt, “and we hope to make a decision and appoint our seventh Board member at our meeting on October 16.”
Any District resident with questions or who would like more information is encouraged to contact Bernadette Seymour, District Clerk, at716-778-6853.
